Terms & privacy
Last updated 18 June 2026.
The short version
- canid keeps no accounts and no database. Your card lives on your device and inside the links you share. Not on our server.
- We can't see your card, can't recover it, and can't take back a link or QR you've already handed out.
- Only put things on a card that you own or have permission to share. You're responsible for what's on your card and where your links point.
- You should think of canid as a link-formatter, because that's what it is. canid URLs are scrambled to keep them from being easily human-readable, but they are not encrypted and can be unscrambled with a simple cipher. Your card doesn't "exist" as a page on the internet since it is computed locally in the viewer's browser based on the data encoded in the URL.
- canid is provided as-is, with no warranties. Use it at your own risk.
Who can use canid
canid is intended for adults and isn't directed at children. You may use it only if you are at least 18 years old and old enough to agree to these terms where you live. If you aren't, don't use canid.
Privacy
Everything on your card is packed into the part of the link after the “#”. Browsers never send that part to any server, so your handles and links never reach us. There is no database, no account, and no profile of you anywhere.
Your card and settings are stored only in your browser's local storage on the device you used. Clearing your browser data or switching devices removes them. We have no copy and no way to restore them, so make sure to save your backup link.
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks and outages. Like any network provider, Cloudflare can see basic connection details such as your IP address and which page was requested, but never the contents of a card or which card you compiled.
To understand how many people use canid, we use Simple Analytics, a privacy-first service that counts page visits without cookies, without tracking you across sites, and without building any profile of you. It runs on the editor and information pages, not on the card-viewer page, and it never sees the contents of a card (and couldn't see it even if it were installed there. The part of the link after the “#” is never sent anywhere). Aside from this, the app uses no other third-party trackers, and there is no card data for us to sell or share.
Using canid responsibly
By using canid, you agree to keep it lawful and decent. You agree not to:
- add handles, links, or information that aren't yours or that you don't have permission to share;
- impersonate anyone, or share another person's contact details without their consent;
- use canid for anything illegal, or to link to unlawful content;
- use canid to harass, threaten, defraud, or harm others.
You are solely responsible for everything on your card and for where its links point. If your use of canid, your card, or anything you share through it leads to a claim, demand, loss, or dispute, you agree to take responsibility for it and to hold canid and its maker harmless from it, including reasonable costs.
Links you open
Cards can contain links created by other people. canid does not control, check, or endorse where those links go. Links to supported networks go to those networks directly; custom links show a warning with the destination before you continue. Open links only from people you trust, and check addresses carefully.
Names and logos
The network names and logos shown in canid (used to label where your handles point) are the property of their respective owners. They appear only to identify those networks. canid is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them.
No warranty
canid is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted or error-free operation. You use it at your own risk. We don't guarantee that your card will always render, that a link or QR will scan, or that the service will always be available.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, canid and its maker are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the service. This includes a card that's lost when local storage is cleared, and anything that results from a link shared through canid. canid is free and collects no personal data, so to the extent any liability can't be excluded, the total liability of canid and its maker to you for everything related to the service is capped at zero US dollars (US$0). This is the amount you paid to use the service. Some places don't allow these limits, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law permits.
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
Governing law and disputes
These terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to canid, are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be handled exclusively by the state or federal courts located in California, and you agree to that venue.
Please email dev@canid.app first. Most issues can be sorted out informally, and I would genuinely rather fix a problem than fight about one.
Changes
canid is in active development and these terms may change. Material changes will be reflected here with a new date. Continuing to use canid after a change means you accept it.
